Jewish Literature in the Global South

These are curated exhibits written and produced by University of Michigan undergraduate students who have taken a Jewish history course with Prof. Bryan K. Roby. Produced using Story Maps, by ESRI, the short essays are rich with multi-media materials and provide a concise, accessible way to engage with issues of migration, diversity in the Jewish community, African and Asian cultures, and much more.

Welcome! Jewish Literature in the Global South uses the principle of "each one teach one" to continue and preserve the literary traditions of Sephardim and Jews from the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. The idea of "each one teach one", an Afro-Diasporic proverb, ensures that the As Tunisian Jewish literary giant Daniel Hagège puts it: "one person buys [a book] and ten read it.
